Airport Development Project December 2023

Airport Development Project December 2023

FOREWORD

Designing the Airport Improvements Project 2023 encouraged broad consultation and captured a vision set anew by the shared quest for progress. Amazing opportunities now unfold in implementing components of the Project – and even while simultaneously operating the P.G.I.A.

The new airport access road was opened on Sunday, 27th August 2023. On Wednesday, 11th October 2023, following a competitive tender, a contract was signed with RODLA Construction Limited for the new 275,000 square feet apron expansion and new 195,000 square feet Eastern Taxiway. Work commenced promptly on Wednesday, 1st November 2023.

We are thankful to the technicians of Hidroservicios lndustriales of Mexico who devoted a week at the P.G.I.A. to conduct removal of rubber deposit and friction test on the Runway. In the past few months, Chief of Security Glenford Reid and Airport Security Specialist David Jones have ensured the certification and re-certification of 194 airport security personnel.

In the seriousness of our work we may occasionally fail to recognize the extraordinary buoyancy of the folks and businesses around us. Through their intense dedication and shining spirit, their remarkable resiliency and joyfulness, and their strict adherence to safety and security protocols each day, operations remain uninterrupted – an awesome feat now confidently configured as routine!

There is an atmosphere of great excitement as Wednesday, 6th December 2023 fast approaches for JetBlue’s inaugural non-stop flight from JFK in New York to Belize. With eager hearts, we wish to proclaim a warm welcome!

No matter the task or duty, airport staff across all levels embrace the exhortation of Martin Luther King Jr. when he said, “If a person sweeps streets for a living, he should sweep them as Michelangelo painted, as Beethoven composed music, as Shakespeare wrote his plays.”

Working hand in glove with the Department of Civil Aviation, representatives of our Company participated in the Universal Safety Audit with auditors of the International Civil Aviation Organization in November, 2023. We are especially grateful to COCESNA’s consultant Herbert Wedel and our compliance officer Gilberto Torres for raising the level of safety and efficiency and observe conformity with myriad regulations, standards and best practices.

At this joyous time of the year, full of light, promise and merriment, may each of us become servants of peace and sowers of hope in the upliftment of our common humanity.

With friendship,

Jorge L. Espat
